NOT-A-BORING COMPETITION

September 30, 2020

European Tunnelling Week

European tunnelling week is the new European tunnelling competition organised by a group of ambitious and motivated engineers.

The aim of the event is to connect individuals and organisations and to show their new innovative tunnelling systems.

In September 2022, the European tunnelling week will host their first event in the UK. Students from all around the world will get to showcase their tunnelling systems and get direct feedback from the industry, which in turn will be given the chance to meet new potential recruits for its companies.

European Tunnelling week provides three competition categories and an industrial exhibition, leaving enough space for tunnelling enthusiasts from every level to participate.

We are proud and excited to attend the European Tunnelling Week this September!

What is next for the Warwick Boring Team?

We have registered for the European Tunnelling Week (ETW) for this September, and the Not-a-Boring competition for 2023.

The Not-A-Boring Competition is the world's biggest tunneling competition organised by Elon Musk’s The Boring Company, challenging worldwide teams to innovate their own tunnelling solutions and answer the question, “Can you beat the (speed of a) snail?”

The overall aim was to bore a 30-metre tunnel with a cross-sectional area of 0.2 square metres (equivalent to a circle with a 0.5-meter diameter).

•Out of 12 finalist teams, 10 teams attended the competition

•Competitor team sizes ranged from 15 to >100, Warwick Boring was a team of ~25

•Our team succeeded in completing all safety critical tests, totalling in 87/93 safety tests passed (93.5%), this put us in the top 4 teams competing.
